Del City, a city of 21,000 in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, sought an update to its citywide comprehensive plan. With nearly all of Del City’s land area developed, the city also wanted to look at revitalization and redevelopment strategies for three key corridors with differing characteristics.

On a team with the engineering firm Halff, Hampton led the design vision process for these three corridors, including a two-day design workshop with rapidly-generated design concepts for city council and planning commission review.

Three study areas allowed stakeholders to explore quick wins, and long-term strategies, in three distinctive corridors:

On Reno Avenue, design pitches included restoration of an existing park, streetscape enhancements for connectivity to regional bikeways, and real estate positioning strategies for aging commercial and industrial property.

On 15th Street, design pitches looked at the possibility of growing a connected citywide park system and strategies for incremental changes to commercial strip mall properties.

On 29th Street, design pitches centered around establishing a historic main street district and creating design standards for a key undeveloped acreage.
